In 1976, in a farmhouse on the Friulian hills, Andrea Centazzo and Carla Lugli, following a dream of independence from the recording market, created the first Italian label, completely self-managed by musicians.
ICTUS Records was born and immediately established itself on the music scene releasing unique works of new jazz, improvisation and contemporary music. Over the years ICTUS has recorded the Gotha of modern music, establishing itself known all over the world for albums that have become legendary.
After the ICTUS Festival edition held in 2012 at John Zorn‘s The Stone in New York for the 35th anniversary, the ICTUS Festival at the Out Off Theater in Milan celebrates the 45th anniversary of the record label.
The label, after 10 years of activity in Italy and a forced twenty-year stop, then reopened the doors in Los Angeles, proposing its unique catalog with the copious addition of new records with artists from all over the world.
The festival program is divided into four days with four sets per evening, each named after a related ICTUS album.
The cast shines with the presence of both American and European musicians, ranging from those who have shared concerts and recordings with Centazzo since the 1970s (such as Guido Mazzon, Giancarlo Schiaffini, Roberto Ottaviano, Franco Feruglio, Carlo Actis Dato), to the meetings of the following decades such as with Ellen Burr, Steve Hubback, Jeff Schwartz up to the collaborations born in the new millennium and in the last few years, such as those with Steve Swell, Elliott Sharp, Harri Sjöström, Elisabeth Harnik, Sergio Armaroli and many other talents of creative music.
A unique event that will be recorded for the production of a box set truly representative of the contemporary trends of new music.
As side event of the festival, on July 2 the exhibition Sound Images (curated by Walter Rovere) will open at the Erratum space in Milan, dedicated to Centazzo’s visual works; graphic scores and pictorial works inspired by the musical notation that the artist began to produce in the 80s and which have been exhibited in important solo and group exhibitions in major Italian and foreign galleries.
The festival is dedicated to the memory of the late photographer Roberto Masotti, whose photos have documented Centazzo’s entire career, from the first album on Ictus (the duo with Steve Lacy, Clangs), to very recent album Echoes with Sergio Armaroli of 2021.
The event is produced by ERRATUM about sound | visual | text in collaboration with Mino Bertoldo and the Out Off Theater.
The artistic direction is by Andrea Centazzo.

A Milano un festival di quattro giorni con venti musicisti internazionali e una mostra, per celebrare i 45 anni della Ictus Records e i 50 anni di attività professionale di Andrea Centazzo
Nel 1976, in un casolare sulle colline friulane, Andrea Centazzo e Carla Lugli, seguendo un sogno di indipendenza dal mercato discografico, diedero vita alla prima etichetta italiana completamente autogestita da musicisti.
Nasceva la ICTUS Records che immediatamente si impose sulla scena musicale come produttrice di opere uniche di nuovo jazz, improvvisazione e musica contemporanea. Per la ICTUS ha registrato negli anni il Gotha della musica moderna, rendendola conosciuta in tutto il mondo per album diventati leggendari.
Dopo l’edizione tenutasi nel 2012 allo Stone di New York per il 35ennale, il Festival ICTUS Festival al Teatro Out Off di Milano celebra i 45 anni dell’etichetta discografica che dopo 10 anni di attività in Italia e una forzata sosta ventennale, ha riaperto poi i battenti a Los Angeles, riproponendo il suo unico catalogo con la copiosa aggiunta di nuovi dischi con artisti da tutto il mondo.
Il programma del festival è diviso in quattro giorni con quattro set per sera, ciascuno intitolato a un relativo album ICTUS.
Il cast brilla per la presenza di musicisti sia statunitensi che europei, che vanno da coloro che hanno condiviso concerti e incisioni assieme a Centazzo fin dagli anni 70 (come Guido Mazzon, Giancarlo Schiaffini,Roberto Ottaviano, Franco Feruglio, Carlo Actis Dato), agli incontri dei decenni successivi come Ellen Burr, Steve Hubback, Jeff Schwartz fino alle collaborazioni nate nel nuovo millennio e negli ultimissimi anni, come quelle con Steve Swell, Elliott Sharp, Harri Sjöström, Elisabeth Harnik, Sergio Armaroli e molti altri esponenti della musica creativa e improvvisata americana ed europea.
Un evento unico che verrà registrato per la produzione di un box set rappresentativo delle tendenze contemporanee della nuova musica.
Come evento collaterale del festival, il 2 luglio verrà inaugurata inoltre presso lo spazio Erratum di Milano la mostra Sound Images (a cura di Walter Rovere) dedicata alle opere visive di Centazzo, lavori grafici e pittorici nati da e attorno alla notazione musicale che l’artista ha iniziato a produrre negli anni 80 e che sono stati esposti in importanti personali e collettive nelle maggiori gallerie italiane ed estere.
Il festival è dedicato alla memoria del fotografo Roberto Masotti, i cui scatti hanno seguito tutta la carriera di Centazzo, dall’album 001 della Ictus (il duo con Steve Lacy, Clangs), al recentissimo no. 199 (Echoes con Armaroli) del 2021.
L’evento è prodotto da ERRATUM about sound | visual | text in collaborazione con Mino Bertoldo e il Teatro Out Off. La direzione artistica è di Andrea Centazzo.

1976 gründeten Andrea Centazzo und Carla Lugli in einem Bauernhaus in den friaulischen Hügeln, ihrem Traum von Unabhängigkeit vom Plattenmarkt folgend, das erste italienische Label, das vollständig von Musikern selbst geführt wurde. ICTUS Records war geboren und etablierte sich sofort in der Musikszene, indem es einzigartige Werke des Gegenwartsjazz, der Neuen Improvisationsmusik und der zeitgenössischen Musik veröffentlichte. Im Laufe der Jahre hat ICTUS Aufnahmen mit der Crème de la Crème der kreativen Musik vorgelegt und sich mit legendär gewordenen Alben in der ganzen Welt einen Namen gemacht.
Nach der ICTUS-Festivalausgabe im Jahr 2012, die anlässlich des 35-jährigen Jubiläums in John Zorns The Stone in New York stattfand, feiert das ICTUS-Festival nun im Out Off Theater in Mailand das 45-jährige Bestehen des Plattenlabels. Das Label hat nach 10 Jahren Tätigkeit in Italien und einer zwanzigjährigen Zwangspause die Türen in Los Angeles wieder geöffnet und bietet seinen einzigartigen Katalog mit zahlreichen neuen Platten von Künstler*innen aus aller Welt an.
Das Festivalprogramm ist in vier Tage mit vier Sets pro Abend unterteilt, die jeweils nach einem ICTUS-Album benannt sind.
Die Besetzung glänzt durch die Anwesenheit sowohl amerikanischer als auch europäischer Musiker*innen, angefangen bei denen, die seit den 1970er Jahren mit Centazzo Konzerte und Aufnahmen gemacht haben (wie Guido Mazzon, Giancarlo Schiaffini, Roberto Ottaviano, Franco Feruglio, Carlo Actis Dato), zu den Begegnungen der folgenden Jahrzehnte wie mit Ellen Burr, Steve Hubback, Jeff Schwartz bis hin zu den Kooperationen, die im neuen Jahrtausend und in den letzten Jahren entstanden sind, wie die mit Steve Swell, Elliott Sharp, Harri Sjöström, Elisabeth Harnik, Sergio Armaroli und vielen anderen exponierten Vertreter*innen des zeitgenössischen Jazz.
Ein einzigartiges Event, das für die Produktion einer Box aufgezeichnet wird, die wirklich repräsentativ für die aktuellen Trends der neuen kreativen Musik ist.
Im Rahmen des Festivals wird am 2. Juli im Erratum in Mailand die Ausstellung Sound Images (kuratiert von Walter Rovere) eröffnet, die Centazzos visuellem Werk gewidmet ist. Es handelt sich um grafische Partituren und malerische Werke, die von der musikalischen Notation inspiriert sind, welche der Künstler in den 80er Jahren zu produzieren begann und die in wichtigen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen in bedeutenden italienischen und ausländischen Galerien ausgestellt wurden.
Das Festival ist dem Andenken an den verstorbenen Fotografen Roberto Masotti gewidmet, dessen Fotos die gesamte Karriere von Centazzo dokumentiert haben, vom ersten Album auf Ictus (das Duo mit Steve Lacy, Clangs) bis zum jüngsten Album Echoes mit Sergio Armaroli von 2021.
Die Veranstaltung wird von ERRATUM (Sound | Visual | Text) in Zusammenarbeit mit Mino Bertoldo und dem Out Off Theater produziert.
Die künstlerische Leitung liegt bei Andrea Centazzo.
