My album “Confusion Bleue” was released on Soul Note/Black Saint Record in the summer of 2010. Unfortunately, this album became the final release from the legendary Italian label.
Fortunately, the album gained much critical acclaim, the artistic synergy between musicians was evident, and so the band (now christened “Confusion Bleue”) decided to sail on exploring ‘total improvisation’ — fully improvised music with healthy respects to melody and tonal harmony. A superb opportunity arrived when Roulette (still at the old address on West Broadway) booked us along with my dear friend Andrea Centazzo on September 25, 2010.
The bassist Tyler Goodwin who contributed beautifully to the original album had since joined the US Army band, was stationed in Germany, and so could not participate. But Chris Kelsey joined for the occasion and inspired the remaining members. What you are hearing in this album is exactly how the music emerged on that early autumn night in New York. We are all extremely happy that this high-spirited concert is now being released on another legendary label, ICTUS Records.
